I tried to get one factory installed on my R44 and they said it was only available on the Newscopter.

http://www.air-action.de/AA-shop1.html

Their page is kind of messy and it's a company from Germany, but the products are good and they have an office in Santa Monica.

Actually I just realized that their English page (above) only shows 1 product under action cam, their German version shows lots more:

I know that is not exactly what you have been looking for, but maybe it brings you closer to what you need.

There are alot of nice surveillance cameras out there that would probalby do the trick, they are almost all 12 volts Dc and you could easily run them off a small battery. We install surveillance cameras and for about 150 dollars you can get a good wide angle 480 scan line camera. The DVR is the harder part because you want somthing that will record high quality. IF you are only doing 1 or two cameras id say plug them into your cam corder. IF you doing more then you could use several other systems that arent too expensive. I thought of adding them myself to my r22 but im not sure what the regs are about something like that since im not an A/P. Any mechanics have any thoughts on this?

Yeah, alot of thoughts on this  ;D ...... It really just depends on how you attach them and if your FSDO will buy off on them. Kind of similar to the airgizmo issue. Is it a permanent installation....etc.....

Simon, How did you justify the use of the cameras and their installation/attachment through the FSDO?

Grant makes a good point about the type of attachment, especially an external piece of equipment. Generally speaking if it's clamped on without backing out existing screws in order to mount it then it will probably fly without FSDO approval.

I recently installed two external antennas for live video downlink in the area where the front gear faring meets the fuselage using stainless hose clamps and then safety wiring the screws. I had my mechanic look at it a he said it would meet the "not permanent" test. I was more concerned with having to drill permanent holes in the aircraft than the FSDO having to approve it.

In the case of mounting a camera on the end of the horizontal stabilizer, it may be more difficult to get a sign off due to the cables running through the tail cone. It would be really nice to have a rear mounted external camera but, for now I'm going to have to be happy with a Sony XC-777 clamped to the center top of the rear cabin looking out the front windscreen.

On the topic of recording in HD, a 1TB SSD drive would do it. ASAP happen to have such a video recording box if needed.

Hi Grant,

Sincere apologies, I guess I can chalk that one up to newbie status.
